Hello from Early Years

1/4/20

Hello everyone.

We hope you are all OK. We are all fine and keeping busy either at home or in school. We are missing you lots and loving seeing all the things you are up to on Facebook, Twitter and Tapestry.

We are sharing weekly tasks based around our book of the week on Tapestry. (see below for this weeks tasks) The teachers will share the story on Tapestry and then you can complete the tasks.

This week, we have chosen Each Peach Pear Plum by Janet and Allan Ahlberg as our ‘Book of the Week’. We hope you enjoy the story!

Reception activities for Each Peach Pear Plum

Here are some activities linked to the story that you might like to do.

Day 1: Read the story. What is special about this story? (it rhymes) Spot the rhymes throughout the story. Can they suggest other things that rhyme with those words e.g. stairs, bears, cares.
Play I spy in the book or in your home.

Day 2: Recap the story – What is your favourite part and why? Remember it rhymes. www.phonicsplay.com  – Rhyming games

Day 3: Look at a page from the book and explore what characters are in it and how the authors make it rhyme. Can you think of a character from any book/TV show you like and draw a picture of them. Together thinking of a sentence to match. You could try and make it rhyme.

Day 4: Retell the story together
This time look at a picture and write a different sentence about the picture. You could use I can see… as your start.

Day 5: Look into all the different stories/rhymes mentioned throughout the book. How many do you already know? Are there any you want to read or find on Google.

We are also sharing other stories (use #Storytime to find on Tapestry) just for fun and sending hello messages to keep in touch.

While we are at home we are trying different things with our own children and sharing the ones that worked! We have been inspired by lots of the things you have been up to, including Harry Potter Yoga and a bean bag target. We have been trying to complete some of the challenges of the day, skill of the week and doing some Makaton too.

We would like to share some of what we have been up to.

Miss Turner

We loved the scavenger hunt, building a reading den, marbling paper to make Easter cards and baking cakes.

Mrs Watson

We have made vegan chocolate chip cookies, a sock rabbit and an egg box cheesy mouse hole. We have been using a website called Once upon a picture (https://www.onceuponapicture.co.uk/) to inspire our writing.

Mrs Nelson

We made an obstacle course, tried different ways of moving across it and timed ourselves. We have been making pancakes, decorating an Easter basket, making sheep and collecting things on a walk and making a picture.

Mrs Jones

We tried the scavenger hunt too. We have tried lots of science at home. (https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/curations/science-activities/ https://thedadlab.com/) We have been doing different exercises each day, including Joe Wicks, Dough Disco, Cosmic Kids Yoga and Go Noodle.

Ginny update

We would also like you to know that Ginny is fine, eating a whole bag of lettuce a day at the moment. She will taken home on Friday to be looked after by Mrs Johnson and Mrs Turner as she is missing the hussle and bussle of the unit.

We love seeing what you get up to so please share on Tapestry and Facebook (Look for our private group-Archibald 2019-20) . It inspires us and others and always brings a smile.

If you are unable to get onto Tapestry, please email: admin@archibald.newcastle.sch.uk and we will be happy to help.

Keep in touch, stay safe, stay at home and we will see you all soon.
