A visitor at Let’s Get Building Club

26/4/17

This week the builders had to – design and build something that could float. We had great fun designing and building our boats using junk modelling, glue, sticky tape, sellotape and even the glue guns!

Making a boat Joining bits together Designing is important

We also had a special visitor. Mr. Whitelaw, Jack’s Daddy, kindly came in to talk to us about what he does as his job. He is a Civil Engineer and he has previously worked on projects to design different things that float.

He showed us some super big plans and some photos and videos of what had been made. It was very interesting to see a floating road and some floating televisions on the Thames in London! They were used to celebrate the runner Usain Bolt!

The children loved listening and found it really interesting, with lots saying they might like that kind of job when they grow up.

Thank you so much for coming Mr. Whitelaw!
